From broken TV’s, AC units and virtually anything you could think of, we'd seen it all.
At least I thought we had.
It wasn't until the first time he brought home a vintage baseball cap that I instantly fell in love.
Baseball caps soon became my statement piece and eventually I was wearing them everyday.
When I originally started Black Manikin, I intended for it to be a fabric distribution company.
I would take classes after work every Wednesday at FIT to learn about the importance of quality fabrics.
This knowledge would eventually come to use when I began building the brand.
Although I was excited about starting my own company, I didn't feel passionate about the path I was taken.
Seeing this, my girlfriend Sable convinced me to abandon fabrics and begin selling what I love.
Baseball caps.
The beginning stages were not easy.
I didn't have a lot of money at the time and therefore had to be very cost conscience.
I photographed, edited and organized all the products from my room (while sable worked with me on the designs).
The store officially launched on January 19th, 2017.
But it wasn't until I made my very first sale that I knew Black Manikin was going to be something great.
